Is Your Fraser Valley Home Ready for New AC?

If your old AC is barely keeping up, cooling unevenly or driving up energy bills, it is probably ready for replacement. Rep-Air Heating and Cooling is ready to bring lasting comfort back to your Fraser Valley home.

Warning Signs Your Fraser Valley Home Needs New AC

Skyrocketing Energy Bills
Your electricity bill keeps climbing, even if you’re not cooling more. This means your old AC is working harder and inefficiently, consuming significantly more energy just to maintain a temperature. Beyond the financial strain, this signals that your unit is likely on its last legs.

Uneven Cooling Throughout Your Home
Some rooms are freezing, while others remain stubbornly warm and stuffy. Your AC can't properly distribute conditioned air or maintain a consistent temperature, which often points to a failing or improperly sized unit. This leads to discomfort and wasted energy as the system overworks itself.

Frequent Breakdowns and Costly Repairs
It seems like every summer you're calling a technician for another AC repair. An older unit, typically past 10-15 years, will experience component failures due to natural wear and tear. At a certain point, repairing an old unit becomes more expensive than replacing it.

Strange Noises or Odors
Grinding, banging, squealing, or persistent rattling noises are serious red flags. Burning smells can signal electrical problems, while musty odors suggest mold or drainage issues within the system. These are serious warning signs that can indicate mechanical failure, fire hazards, or poor indoor air quality.

Your AC Unit is Over 10-15 Years Old
The average lifespan of a central AC unit is typically 10-15 years. Beyond this age, components are more prone to failure, and the unit's efficiency is significantly lower than modern systems. Even if it's still running, an old unit is likely costing you more in energy and is less reliable.

Why Your AC System Might Be Failing in the Fraser Valley

Age and General Wear and Tear
Just like any mechanical system, AC units have a finite lifespan, especially contending with the varied climate of the Fraser Valley. Over years of operation, components like compressors, coils, and electrical parts naturally degrade. Once an AC unit reaches or exceeds its typical lifespan, replacement becomes the most cost-effective and reliable solution.

Improper Sizing or Poor Prior Installation
Sometimes, a home's original AC system was never correctly sized for its actual cooling load, or a previous installation was subpar. An undersized unit will run constantly, struggling to cool, while an oversized unit will cycle on and off too frequently. This leads to poor dehumidification, uneven temperatures, and premature wear on the system.

Corrosion from Humidity and Environmental Factors
The Fraser Valley’s significant humidity, especially during summer, coupled with potential air pollutants, can accelerate corrosion on vital AC components. This corrosion degrades the coils' ability to transfer heat, leading to reduced efficiency and potential refrigerant leaks. Replacing the unit with a modern system designed with corrosion-resistant coils can mitigate this issue.

Before You Book

What does it cost, and what is covered?

How pricing works

A service visit is $189, and that fee is waived when you go ahead with the repair or installation we quote. Estimates for new equipment are free. Your technician diagnoses the problem first, shows you the readings and photos behind it, and gives you a written estimate, often with a few options, before touching anything. Work starts only when you approve it. Questions first? Call (778) 728-1956.

Repair or replace?

It comes down to the age of the equipment, the size of the repair, and how well the system is keeping up. Past roughly 12–15 years, a major repair usually costs more over the next few winters than replacing does, especially once rebates are counted. Your technician lays out both numbers and you decide.

What moves the price

  • How big the system is and how efficient you want it to be
  • Access, a tight crawlspace or a third-floor attic takes longer than a garage
  • Venting, gas, or electrical work the job triggers
  • Permits and inspection, where Technical Safety BC requires them
  • Which FortisBC and CleanBC rebates you qualify for

Financing runs from $1,000 to $100,000, so a big repair can be paid monthly too. See how financing works.

Warranty and workmanship

  • New installations: up to 12 years of parts and labour coverage. Conditions apply, including annual maintenance, which is what a maintenance plan is for.
  • Repairs: covered under the manufacturer's warranty on the part, traditionally around 12 months depending on the manufacturer and product.
  • No Lemon Guarantee: if we install a new unit and it keeps failing, we work with the manufacturer to replace the unit.
  • Workmanship: before we recommend replacing a part or a piece of equipment, you get detailed readings from industry specific meters, photos of any concerns, and a full written estimate for repair and for replacement based on the age and condition of the equipment.
  • We are registered with Technical Safety BC for gas work, WorkSafeBC compliant, and fully insured, and we pull permits where the work requires them.
  • Full details are on our warranty and workmanship page.
